What is an Unsafe Act?

Violation or omission of a rule or procedure by the worker that increases the chances of an accident occurring such as not wearing PPE, not following safety rules and regulation etc.

What is an Unsafe Condition?

The intrinsic situation in our work environment that increases the possibility of an accident occurring such as Unsafe walkways and working surfaces (Wet surface, poor housekeeping), Damaged/defective/incorrect equipment (damaged electrical cords not replaced), Extreme weather (heat, heavy rain, wind and dust storms) etc.

• Risks prevention

Promote the safety and health of workers through the application of safety measures and the development of the activities necessary for the prevention of risks arising from the activities and tasks of the job.

• Early preventive action

The main obligation of the employer is to ensure the safety and health of the workplace by applying the principles of preventive action:

  • Avoid risks.
  • Assess the risks that cannot be avoided.
  • Fight risks at their source.
  • Adapt the work to the person.
  • Take into account the evolution of the technique.
  • Substitute the dangerous for that which represents little or no danger.
  • Plan prevention.
  • Put collective protection before the individual.
  • Raise awareness among workers.

But despite complying with these principles, why do accidents occur?
